Resin from stems, mixed with gall, ingested to treat cataracts. Macerated bark ingested to treat constipation, but applied to stomach it stops diarrhea. Twigs chews to keep gums healthy. Fresh leaves crushed and used as soap to treat boils. Ash of burnt leaves applied to blisters and ulcers Juice of fruit applied to skin around eyes to soothe them. Powdered fruit mixed with salt and dates applied to fractures. Oil from wild fruits used as antidote against all poisons. Tree up to 7(-10) m. Leaves opposite, lance-shaped to elliptic, 1-2* 2-6 cm, upper surfaces green, lower surfaces yellowish-green and with hair-like scales. Flower whitish, 4 lobes, c. 0.5 cm across, fragrant. Fruit 1.5 cm long, purple-black when ripe, with one seed. Flowering from May to August.
Fairly common in north-facing gullies between 500 and 900 m.
