Stems dried and pounded to be smoked as treatment for breathing difficulties; young shoots are salty and were used for cooking in times of salt shortages. Important browse fodder for camels.

Perennial shrub, puberulous or glabrescent, up to 2-meters high. Much branched with a mealy covering on the stems and leaves. Leaves 4-9 cm long and 2-4 cm broad, perfoliate or nearly cordate with wavy margins, mucronate and clasping at base. Spikes dense. Flowers 1.0-1.5 cm long, orange to yellow, tubular. Stamens 5, free; filaments linear, hairy at the base; anthers 2-called. 

Flowering from January to May.
Foothills and along wadi sides throughout mountains.
