Extremely salt-tolerant, up to seawater salinity, successful landscaping plant in harsh environments, grazed by camels. good ground cover. cultivated near hotels by the sea (Al Aqa and in other places).
Low, glabrous, succulent herb, up to 35cm high. Stems prostrate or ascending, many branched. Leaves opposite, mostly lanceolate to spathulate. Flowers mostly solitary, in the axils. Calyx 5-lobed, each ovate, green outside, pink inside, with short horn near apex. Petals absent. Seeds numerous, black. Flowering from December to June.
Grows on dry and wet saline areas (sabkha) along the road near Dubai.
