Moderately salt tolerant, grazable herb with several known uses in folk medicine.

Annual, stemless herbs, 10-30 cm highs. Leaves and scapes villous with fine silky hairs. Leaves rosulate, linear-lanceolate. veins obscure, entire, acute, 6-12(-15) cm long, 3-6 mm wide. Spikes long-cylindrical, 3-8(-12) cm long, densely villous, on scapes shorter or longer than the leaves. Bracts obovate-elliptic, concave, 3-3.5 mm long, with broad herbaceous midrib and broad scarious margins, villous at tips. Sepals elliptic, 2.5-3 mm long, scarious-margined, villous at margins and apex. Corolla lobes ovate-oblong, acute, glabrous, 2-2.5 mm long. Stamens exerted at maturity with filaments, 3-7 mm long. Capsule ellipsoid, 2-called, 2-seeded, seed oblong, boat-shaped, brown, 1.5-2 mm long. 

Flowering from February to May.
Desert herb, on sandy soil.
