Annual herb, with well developed stems, sometimes glandular-hairy or glabrous. Stem up to 35 cm long, simple or branched, erect or ascending. Leaves opposite, linear, entire, 2-5 cm long, 1.5-3 mm wide. Inflorescence axillary; peduncles 3-5 cm long, hairy. Spikes globose to cylindrical, 5-15 mm long, lobes nearly equal, oblanceolate, acuminate. Corolla-lobes ovate-lanceolate, very acute, tube transversely rugose, up to 4 mm long. Capsule ellipsoid, 2-seeded. Seeds reddish-brown, narrow-elliptic, shining, 2-3 mm long. 

Flowering from January to May.
Roadsides, fallow fields and shallow alluvial soil.
