Ground seeds mixed with water used to treat venereal disease and as a diuretic. Soaked seeds used as a poultice for boils and ulcers. Also used as cosmetic for hair.

Annual herb, 5-15 cm high, stemless. villose. Leaves rosulate, linear to lanceolate, acute, tapering towards base, entire, 4-7 cm long, 2-4 mm wide. Scape erect or ascending, nearly as long as leaves. Spikes ovoid to cylindrical, 0.8-2 cm long, between or overtopping the leaves. Bracts obovate-orbicular, concave, obtuse, 2-3 mm long, membranous, with a herbaceous midrib. Calyx-lobes nearly equal, 2-3 mm long, ovate to elliptic, obtuse, membranous, with a herbaceous midrib. Corolla-lobes broadly ovate, mucronulate, glabrous, with brown centre. Stamens shortly exserted. Capsule ovoid, 2-seeded, 2.5-3 mm long. Seeds brown, elliptic, about 2 mm long. 

Flowering from January to April.
Sandy soil.
