Erect, perennial herb, 30-70 cm high, glabrous. Stems dichotomously branched. Lower leaves petioled, lanceolate in outline, 4-12 cm long, 1-2 cm wide, pinnatilobed, lobes oblong to linear, mucronate; cauline leaves smaller, sessile, dantate or many-clefted at the base. Heads terminal, ovate, on rather long peduncles, yellow flowerd, with involucre 1-15 cm long. Involucral bracts with broad, white margins. Achenes 3-7 mm long, columnar-prismatic, 4-6 furrowed, 4-horned at base, truncate at apex, the outer ones velvet-like. Pappus persistent, longer than the achenes. 

Flowering from February to April.
Rocky damp places, hillsides and wadi beds.
