Highly salt tolerant. Excretes salt.

Mostly prostrate annual or low herb, greyish-green then turning to pink or reddish, glandular excreted salt vrystals. Stems slender, divaricate, branching at the base, 6-30 cm long. Leaves 0.2--0.6 cm long and 0.1-0.3 cm broad, obovate to oblanceolate, glabrous or crisped pubescent above and below, entire, apex rounded or retuse. Petioles very short. Flowers solitary or in loose cymes. Calyx tubular, 0.2-0.5 cm long, with longitudinally 5 ribbed, glabrescent or spersely pubescent between them, apices acute or accuminate. Petals pink, 0.3-0.6 cm long with 5-lobed, lamina suborbicular with dentate apex exerted from the calyx. Stamens 6; anthers yellow. Style trifid above, stigma linear-clavate. Capsule 3-valves, 0.2-0.25 cm long. Seeds ovoid, small, more or less flattened and papillose. 

Flowering from January to April.
Plains and depressions, mostly saline soils, and along both coasts.
