Edible capsule.

A bulbous, glabrous herb, 10-25 cm high. Bulb tunicated, 1.5-3.5 cm in diameter. Leaves 2-4, linear, green, longer than scape, up to 18 cm long, 3-5 mm wide, grooved, sheathing at base. Flowers many (5-15), in a 1-sided raceme. Bracts 1-2 cm, smaller, upward, ovate, acuminate, membranous. Pedicel 3-6 mm long. Perianth 10-15 mm long, tubular-campanulate, outer lobes 5-nerved, reflexed from the tips only. Ovary ovoid, 6 mm long, sessile. Capsule ascending, narrowed at base, orbicular, green to black, with 3-rounded lobes. Seeds orbicular, flat-faced, black, 2-4 mm in diameter. 

Flowering from February to March.
