Annual herb, 20-40 cm high, glabrous. Stems erect, stout, branching from base. Leaves 5-9 cm long, 2-4 mm wide, linear, acute, with scabrous margined. Inflorescences branched, with many flowers. Flowers terminal. Bracts of epicalyx 4, ovate, scale-like, pointed, longer than calyx. Calyx tube 10-15 mm long, the teeth striate, lanceolate, acuminate. Petals 5, pink, the lamina oblong dentate or toothed, nearly glabrous at base. Capsule many seeded. Seed black. 

Flowering from February to April.
