Annual herb, 10-30 cm high, appressed-pubescent. Stem erect, simple or dichotomously branched. Leaves 2-5 cm long and 3-6 mm wide, oblong-linear, acute, ciliolate. Flowers 7-10 mm in loose, 1-sided racemes or irregularly cymose. Bracts ovate-lanceolate, acute. Pedicels usually longer than the calyx. Calyx 6-8 mm long, campanulate, green-nerved in fruit with acute, ciliate teeth. Petals absent or 3-4 mm long, pink. Capsule globular, 5-6 mm long. Seeds ear-shaped, deeply grooved on back, with undulate margins, dark-brown. 

Flowering from February to April.
Fallow fields and gardens.
