Tap root edible. Leaves boiled in water taken as drink to treat dyspepsia and constipation and as a diuretic.

Annual glabrous, erect or decumbent herb, up to 40 cm high. Many stems, branched above, reddish-green. Leaves 2-5 cm long, 1.5-3.5 cm wide on long-petioled, stipulate, ovate-oblong, entire, rounded at apex and cordate at base. Flowers minute, clustered at nodes or axillary in racemes. Inner teeth of fruiting perianth, ovate-triangular 3-ribbed at back, the outer teeth of perianth spinescent, mostly recurved at apex. Achene 4-5 mm, enclosed in perianth triquetrous, fruits 2-types, an aerial and root neck fruits. 

Flowering from January to May.
Plantations, wadis, silty and sandy soils.
