Annual grasses, with fascicled, erect or ascending, glabrous or hairy culms, up to 40 cm high. Leaf-blades linear-acuminate, 10-20 cm long, sparsely hairy or glabrous. Panicle interrupted, erect or slightly nodding of densely spikelets. Spikelets 4-12 flowered, green or purple, including the awns 3-7 cm long. Lower glumes 1-nerved, 6-8 mm long, with hyaline like lower glume. Lemma 12-19 mm long, with hyaline teeth at the tip, up to 2-3 mm long. 

Flowering from February to April.
Dry slopes on the lower mountains, or as a weed of the gardens and in fields.
