Fodder grass. Also used for lawns.

Perennial, desert herb, with long, stiff, wiry, creeping stems, much branched and rooting at the joints; culms erect, up to 35 cm high. Basal sheaths woolly below. Leaf-blades linear, 2-4 cm long, shorter above. Racemes spike-like, 3-6 together, digitately spreading, compressed, 2-5 cm long, 4-8 mm wide, subsessile, 4-6-flowered, sometimes purplish, glumes unequal, shorter than the spikelet. 

Flowering from March to April.
Sandy soil, plantations, gardens.
