Tufted, small, erect grasses, up to 30 cm high. Leaf-blades flat, narrow-linear, 2-10 cm long, 1.5-6 mm wide, hairy, acuminate. Inflorescence 2-6 short, digitate spikes, 1-2 cm long. Spikelets 3-5 flowered, dark-green. Glumes subequal, 1.5-2.5 mm long, both keeled, the keel thick, upper glume extended into a stiff mucro, palea keeled, the keel winged. Grain about 1 mm long, finely granular. Flowering in Spring.
Sandy soil.
