Slender, stoloniferous, branched, perennial grasses. Culms smooth, stiff, widely spreading, up to 40 cm high, with dark-nodes. Leaf-blades flat or rolled, linear, 4-10 cm long, 1-4 mm wide; sheath sparsely hairy. Ligule a minute fringe of hairs. Inflorescence of 3-5, digitate, small, 1-2 cm long spikes, at top of culms. Spikelets 3-9 flowered, 4-8 mm long. Glumes subequal, 1-2.5 mm long, keeled, tipped with an arista. Lemmas 3-4 mm long, keeled, mucronate. Anthers 1-1.5 mm long. Grain finely granular. Flowering from September to May.
