Glabrous tall, perennial grasses, up to 3 meter high. Ligule a rim of hairs. Leaves very narrow, rigid, semiterete, concave above, 20-50 cm long. Panicle oblong, very pale tipped, with purple color, 20-40 cm long, callus densely villous, with white spreading hairs or long ciliates. Glumes subequal, palea shorter than the glume. Grains oval, small. Flowering from September to January.
Near water or damp places or cultivated.
