Annual herb. Stems erect, glaucous, mostly glabrous 10-25 cm in height, branched from below and leafy near base. Leaves lanceolate-oblong, pinnatifid to pinnatisect usually toothed, glabrous. Flowers solitary on long leafless, peduncles. Flower bud 1.0-2.0 cm long, and 0.5-0.8 cm broad, ellipsoid or ovoid, glabrous, glaucous. Petals obovate, reddish purple or reddish-orange with or without a black spotted at the base, 1.0-1.8 cm long. Capsule clavate, tapered to the base, ribbed. glabrous, glaucous 1.0-2.0 cm long, 0.5-0.8 cm broad; stigma rays 4-8. Seeds many, reniform, brownish. Flowering from February to March.
