Used to treat fevers, diabetes, kidney and gallstones.
Glabrous or smooth, annual herb, 25-50 cm high. Stems erect, 4-angled in forked stiffly branches. Basal leaves few, rosette, ovate, obtuse, 8-20 mm long, entire; upper leaves longer and narrower than lower leaves, sessile, up to 3 cm long, 4-8 mm wide. Flowers both pedicellate and subsessile, in cymose inflorescences. Calyx tubular, deeply 5-cleft, with linear keeled lobes, 5-10 mm long. Corolla funnel-shaped, pink, 5-cleft limb, up to 12 mm long. Stamens 5, inserted at the apex of corolla-tube; anthers 1-1.5 mm long. Style 1 or 2 cleft, with 2, deciduous stigmas. Capsule cylindrical, 2-valves, septicidal dehiscing, 8-10 mm long. Seeds minute, brown. Flowering from March to July.
