A tufted, annual grass, 10-40 cm high, leaf-blades glabrous, convolute, 4-10 cm long, 1-1.5 mm wide. Panicle lax 10 cm long, with the branches, solitary or paired. Glumes unequal, lanceolate acute to obtuse; lower glume 4-7 mm long, upper glume 4-10 mm long, 3-nerved. Lemma 9-20 mm long, terete near the base, laterally flattened above. Awns 3, the middle up to 20 mm long, the lateral very short, 1-2 mm long. Flowering from February to April.
