The plant is tonic, laxative, diuretic and anti-colic. The seeds of the plant are used in the UAE to treat toothache, mixed with vinegar and inhaled from the mouth as an antiseptic. Crushed plant used as ulcer treatment. Honey nectar plants. Bedu used it to make dried cakes of boiled curdled milk (iqt).

An annual, erect, glabrous, leafy herb, 10-50 cm high, with scapes, solitary or several often branched above. Leaves many in a dense basal, erect rosette, 10-30 cm long, 2-8 mm broad, semi-teret, fistular, tapering, sheathing at base. Flowering from January- March.  

Rocky sandy places, gravel, desert plains, or a weed of field and gardens during winter.
