Evergreen shrub up to 3 m high, spines few to numerous, branchlets glabrous to pubescent. Leaves leathery, glabrous to stiffly hairy on petiole and midrib, petiole 1-6 mm long, blade ovate to broadly elliptic, 5-38 * 3-32 mm, serrulate to crenulate or subentire, acute to retuse at the apex, rounded to truncate at the base. Flowers yellowish, subsessile, in 2-10 cm long spikes. Sepals 1-1.5 mm long. Petals 0.5-1 mm long, equaling the stamens. Style c. 1 mm long, stigma subcapitate. Drupe subglobose, c.6 mm in diameter. First red, black when ripe, with 2(-3) flat stones c. 6*5 mm.
