Annual, erect herb, 10-40 cm high. Stems slender, branched above, glabrous to slightly hispid. Leaves 1-2 cm long, alternate, linear-lanceolate, sessile, acute. Inflorescence many-flowered, spike-like racemes, spreading corymbose-cymes, ebracteate; pedicel 4-9 mm long, or mostly sessile. Sepals 4-6 mm long, lanceolate, accuminate, carinate, glandular at margin and hyaline at the base, with one or more distinct nerved. Petals 6-15 mm long, obovate, yellow. Stamens 5. Staminodes 5. Ovary ovoid. Capsule 2-4 mm across, sub-globose, splitting into 10, 1-seeded cocci. Seeds oblong, small, reddish brown. Flowering from February to April.
