Perennial, prostrate or decumbent herb, 20-50 cm high, with a woody root stock; branching basally, with brown-villous stems. Leaves sessile, 5-20 mm long, 2-4 mm wide, linear to oblong, oblanceolate to lanceolate, subacute to obtuse, villous. Flowers 1-3 together, sessile or subsessile in leaf axils. Peduncles up to 20 mm long, decreasing in length upwards, finally becoming sessile. Bracts and bracteoles linear, acute. Sepals densely hairy, the outer lobes ovate, tapering to an acute point, 4-8 mm long. corolla pinkish-white to pink, 8-12 mm long. Style slender, glabrous; stigma 2-3 times the length of the style, filiform. Capsule glabrous, globose 3-4 mm in diameter. Seeds 2-4, brown-black, more or less 2 mm long, with sparsely silvery hairs. Flowering from March to May.
Sandy gravely soil and roadsides.
