Highly salt tolerant up to half seawater salinity.
Annual herb, up to 30 cm high, silky-hairy, dichotomously and divaricately branching from base into slender, purple stems. Leaves membranous, basal one oblong-spathulate, sessile, obtuse, entire, 1.5-4 cm long and about 1 cm wide; upper leaves smaller, oblong to ovate-lanceolate, sessile, rounded at base, 1-2 cm long. Heads numerous, axillary and terminal, villous, 5-7 mm in diameter, globose on long thin, red leafless peduncles. Involucral bracts linear-lanceolate, acute, with dense, white, woolly hairs. Flowers yellow, ray florets hardly longer than the disk florets. Achenes minute. Pappus of hairs, stiff, scabrid, three times longer than achenes. Flowering from February to June.
