Highly salt tolerant, ornamental tree with edible fruits.
Unarmed, glabrous, evergreen tree, 2-10 meters high. Twigs with rough grayish cortex. Leaves paripinnate; leaflets numerous, in pairs. Petiole 1-2cm long, rhachis 3-8cm long. Inflorescence racemose, terminal and lateral on branches, mostly with few flowers. Flowers rather small, about 1cm long. Calyx 4-5 lobes. Corolla 5-lobes, yellow with red veins. Perfect stamens, 3 with long visible filaments. Style slender; stigma truncate-capitate. Pods 5-12cm long and 1-3cm wide, thick, linear-oblong, curved, septate. Seeds ovate, flattened, dark-brown, 1-1.5cm long. Flowering in spring.
Cultivated in gardens, parks, roadsides near sea beaches, tolerates saline conditions. Flowering in spring.
