Highly salt tolerant, weed plant with several known folk medicinal uses. Boiled stem used for treating diarrhea. Dried powdered plant, mixed with camel milk, used to treat contusions.
Perennial, yellowish-brown, fleshy herbs, 20-60 cm high. Stem erect, simple, thick. Leaves present, alternate, scale-like, 2-4.5 cm long, 1-2 cm wide. Floral part of the height of the erect plant; inflorescences racemes. Flowers 2-4 cm long, compact in dense spike, of 12-38 or more. Bract ovate-lanceolate, 1-2 cm long, bracteoles linear-lanceolate, shorter than calyx. Calyx 5-lobed, united below, obtuse, lobes 1-2 cm long, about 1 cm wide. Corolla oblique, campanulate or funnel-shaped, usually yellowish, with purplish lobes, 2-4 cm long, 1.5-2 cm broad at the mouth. Stamens 4, didynamous; filaments 2-3 cm long, wolly at base; anthers 2-called, equal, woolly, 4-6 mm long. Stigma 2-lobed, not deeply divided, 4-5 mm long. Capsule 1.5-2 cm long, ovoid-oblong, beaked, many-seeded, seeds numerous, subglobose, 0.5-1 mm long, dark-brown. Flowering from January to March.
