Large shrub or small tree, erect, more or less glabrous, 1-2.5 meters high. Stems thick, woody at base, much branched, young branches cylindrical, green, thin. Leaves minute, scale-like. Flowers in short lateral spikes on thin (1-1.5 mm diameter) lateral shoots or terminal branchlets. Stamens exerted; staminodes membranous, ovate exceeding ovary. Stigma 5, sessile. Fruit 0.6-0.9 cm in diameter including about 4 mm long, yellowish, more or less entire wings. Flowering from October to December.
