A much branched, prostrate, perennial herb, up to 50 cm long. Stems branching divaricate at 2-4 cm, intervals, at each joint there is a single large leaf or opposite pair of small, unequal leaves. Leaves 0.5-2.5 cm long and 0.4-1.5 cm broad, opposite to subopposite, broadly ovate, entire, mucronate; petioles 0.2-0.5 cm long. Flowers in crowded sessile or subsessile axillary cymes; bracteat. Sepals 5, free, equal, small, ovate, acute, glandular, margins membranous. Petals 5, free, membranous, ovate, toothed at top. Stamens 7, with dilated filaments, united at the base forming a ring. Ovary bicarpellate; styles 2 or bifid; stigma 2. Fruit globose, separating vertically into 2-cocci. Seeds small, reniform. Flowering from November to April.
Mostly grown on sandy soil and sandy dunes.
