Glabrous, small annual herb, often reddish, 7-20 cm high, with many ascending and decumbent branches from the base. Leaves 1.5-7 cm long, 0.5-2 cm wide, fleshy, petioled, ovate-oblong in outline, pinnatifid into 1-4 ovate-crenate-lobed or dentate, obtuse, the uppermost leaves smaller, linear to lanceolate, entire. Flowers clustered in the upper nodes of axillary racemes and terminal leafless, loose inflorescence. Valves membranous, reticulate, cordate-ovate, 5-10 mm long, often pink, red or turning yellow, furnished medially with a smooth, elongated wart. Flowering from February to April.
