Honey nectar plants.
A branched, perennial herb, 20-50 cm high, glabrous or slightly papillose. Leaves 3-5 cm long, 0.5-2.5 cm wide, entire, obovate to lanceolate, acute, tapering below into a long petiole; upper leaves sometimes divided. Bracts linear-lanceolate. Flowers small, 1-2 mm long, in dense terminal racemes, 5-20 cm long. Sepals obovate, caducous. Petals yellowish, the upper petals divided into 9-11 linear-spathulate lobes. Filaments persistent. Capsule erect, oblong or ovoid, 2-5 mm long, 3-toothed, teeth short. Seeds many, brown to shiny-black, smooth. Flowering from February to March.
