Annual, sometimes perennial herb, woody base, stem glabrescent or with a little adpressed down, erect, diffusely branched, 20-70 cm. Stipules 3-5 mm long, scarious. Leaves uni or trifoliate; petiole 3-6 mm long, leaflets 1-4 cm long, 2-6 mm broad, lanceolate or oblong-lanceolate, acute, middle one almost longer than the lateral leaflets. Raceme elongated, 6-12 flowered, up to 10 cm long. Bracts 3-5 mm long, scarious, acute. Pedicel 1-2.5 mm long. Calyx 3-4 mm long, teeth linear, nearly glabrous. Corolla orange-purple. Pod 3-5 seeded, terete, constricted between seeds, strongly reticulately veined, more or less hairy. Flowering from August to October.
