Moderately salt tolerant, widely spread ornamental plant. Commonly cultivated for edible fruits.
Grey bark with milky sap, rounded-head, evergreen tree, 3-10 meters high, produces aerial roots from its branches, which become secondary trunks. Leaves large, leathery, ovate or elliptic, 10-20cm long, dark green with yellow-green veins. Male flowers smaller in size than the female ones. Fruits small, globular, stalkless pairs, red, cherry-like. Flowering in the spring.
Cultivated, it is ideal for parks, gardens roadsides and large courtyards near sea. Grows well in full sun and has a very long life.
