Edible leaves. Celery seed is also used as a spice and its extracts have been used in herbal medicine.
Annual or perennial herb, erect to ascending glabrous, aromatic, branched, 20-50 cm high. Leaves 1-2 pinnate, segments 5-30 cm long, deltate, rhombic or lanceolate, lobed or serrate. Umbels mostly axillary, short-peduncled or sessile. Rays 4-12. Bracts and bracteoles absent. Petals white, tiny. Styles much longer than the stylopodium. Fruit 1-2 mm broadly ovoid, with 5 prominent rubs. Flowering from April to September.
