Jasmine is a small evergreen vine or shrub reaching up to 0.5–3 m (1.6–9.8 ft) tall with attractive glabrous leaves producing attractive white sweet-scented flowers in great profusion in the hot season. This species is highly variable in terms of plant propagation. Only a few varieties can be reproduced by seed. Once cultivated, it does not bear seeds and the plant is reproduced solely by cutting, layering, marcotting, and other methods of asexual propagation. Though flowering occurs throughout the year, peak season starts from March and lasts until July. Flowers are produced in clusters of 3–12 together at the end of branches, about 2–3 cm in diameter with 5–9 lobes, strongly scented with a white corolla. Flowers open at night and close in the morning. It is widely cultivated for its attractive and sweet fragrant flowers. It is used in gardens as an ornamental plant. The flowers are also used for perfumes and making tea.
