perennial herb, 20-50cm high densely appressed-canescent, many-branched. Branches divaricate, silvery-greyish and finely lined or ribbed. Leaves 5-15 cm long, lower filiform, the upper linear, short, curved. Heads many, solitary-terminal, on long slender peduncles, with 5-7 yellow florets, longer than involucre. Involucre 12-15 mm long; involucral bracts grey, appressed-puberulent, acute, the outer ovate-lanceolate, the inner linear-lanceolate. Achenes 10-15 mm long, slender, longitudinally grooved, glabrous, striate, with a persistent pappus equaling or exceeding the achenes; bristles scabrous above. Flowering from March-April.
