Perennial, tufted, stems with 3-4 black nodes, up to 60 cm. Leaves dense at base, flat or rolled, rigid, 2-10 cm long. Inflorescence soft hairy cylindrical spike, often paired, partly enclosed by leaf sheath, 2-8 cm long. Spikelets 4-8-flowered, with hair-like appendages (awns) up to 1 cm long. Flowering from December to April.
Desert grass on rocky places.
