Annual grass, 8-40 cm high. Leaf-blade glaucous, 5-20 cm long, 2-7 mm wide, usually glabrous or sparsely pubescent. Spike 2-10, oblong, compressed, with fragile rachis. Spikelets sessile or subsessile, 1.5-3 cm long. Glume linear-lanceolate, long-awned, 12-28 mm long, including the awn, ciliate along the margins. Lemma lanceolate, glabrous, 8-12 mm long, awned, 10-25 mm long. This species mostly with many subspecies and varieties in the world. Flowering in Spring.
Sandy soil, waste places and roadsides.
