Desert perennial, rhizomates, shrubby grass, up to 1 meter high, pale-yellow, woody at base. Culms simple or branched. Leaf-blades linear, stiff, 7-12 cm long, ligule a rim of hairs. Racemes silky, villous, up to 10 cm long, erect, terminal, beaking at joints. Sessile and pedicelled spikelets similar, 6-7 mm long, hirsute. Glumes unequal, ciliate-hirsute from the margins and keels. Flowering in Spring.
Sandy desert and sandy-rocky places.
