Annual, small, gray-canescent herb, up to 30 cm high. Stem pubescent. Leaves simple, 5-15 mm long and 3-9 mm broad, subsessile, ovate-cordate, obtuse, mucronate, thickly coated with soft appressed hairs on both surface. Stipules minute. Petiole 1 mm long. Flowers small, bright red, in sessile axillary, clusters. Calyx 1.5-3.5 mm long, teeth linear, densely pubescent. Corolla nearly as long as calyx. Pod 4-5 mm long, thick, oblong, densely pubescent, 2-seeded, rarely 1-seeded, seeds pitted. Flowering from September to October.
