Annual grasses, with culm, up to 50 cm long, erect or geniculately ascending from base. Leaf-blades and sheaths nearly glabrous to pubescent, linear, 3-12 cm long, Ligule membranous, 1-2 mm long. Panicle 2-8 cm long, oblong, cylindrical, dense to lax, pale-green. Spikelets 3-6 florets, subsessile. Glumes unequal, glabrous to irregularly pubescentl, lower 1-3 mm long, upper 2-4 mm long. Lemmas finely papillose, awned from slightly below the dorsal apex, awn usually shorter than the lemma. Palea shorter than lemma. Flowering in Spring.
Plantations and sandy soil.
