Honey nectar plants. Leaves and stems used for childbirth and earache. crushed leaves and young stems heated in water, strained solution applied to bruises, snakebite and swellings. Also for headaches and itchy rashes. Juice considered to be antiseptic. Paste made of leaves and stems applied to inflamed joints, sore and paralyzed muscles.

Evergreen shrub, 50-120 cm short pubescent. stems erect or ascending, divaricately branched from woody base, stem and branches glabrous or glabrescent, whitish. Leaves 2-6 cm long, 1.5-3 cm wide, thick, ovate to orbicular, mucronate, glabrous; petioles 1-2 cm long, glabrous. Stipular prickles 2-5 mm long, hooked. Flowers in terminal loose racemes. Sepals unequal, 3 lower sepals broadly oblong or ovate about 2 cm concave; upper sepal enlarged 3-5 cm, helmet-shaped. Petals white, oblong or obovate 2-3.5 cm long. Stamens numerous, 2-5 cm long; filaments and anthers white. Fruit a berry, oblong-obovoid or obovoid-pyriform, ribbed, 2-6 cm long (excluding the gynophore), many seeded and pulpy. 

Flowering from February to March.
Among rocks on hillsides and mountain slopes.
