Annual, small, erect to prostrate or ascending grass, with many smooth and glabrous culms. Leaf-blades inflated, rigid, almost cordate at the base, lanceolate-acuminate, 2-4 cm long, 2-5 mm wide, margins with spaced spinous hairs, lower sheaths clasping the culms, the uppermost usually embracing the base of the panicle. Inflorescence, cylindrical, very dense, up to 16 cm long, 3-5 mm wide. Flowering in Spring.
Sandy soil and dry waste farms.
