Dwarf, annual, tufted grass, 5-20 cm high. Leaf-blades linear, acuminate, 4-8 cm long, 2-4 mm wide. Sheaths with scattered, long hairs. Inflorescence panicle small, dense, often silvery-flushed, 10-15 mm across. Spikelets 3-5 flowered, 4-5 mm long (including the awns). Glumes unequal, 1-nerved, 2-3 mm long, each with short awns. Lemmas 3-nerved, hairy, 3-4 mm long, including the central awn. Flowering in Spring.
Desert plant, sandy salty soil.
