Perennial, woody base stems much-branched, erect, up to 30(-100) cm. Leaves linear, 0.5*1-5 cm, pointed tip. Flowers in sprays of 10-15 flowers, pink to purple, 3-4 cm across. Sepals form tube 0.6-1 cm long. Petals slightly clawed with rounded tip. Fruits narrowly oblong, spreading from stem pointing up, 0.4 * 2-5 cm. Outer casing of fruit drops off when fruit matures, revealing a translucent membrane to which the seeds are attached. Seeds with broad papery margins, in double rows. Flowering from February to April.
